For those DIY jewelry makers that don't live near a Swarovski Crystallized concept store, jewelry making kits are available online.
There are four different types of kits: earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets and accessories – with many different designs ranging from $12 to almost $200 per kit. The kit shown in this article is the Bowed Kit – Pendant Necklace in crystal / gold. Tools required and not included are scissors, beading needle, craft glue, flat nose pliers and side cutters. Ordering a Swarovski KitThe Swarovski website has a shopping cart that is powered by amazon.com. Amazon.com has a good, reliable shopping cart system in place. Swarovski was wise to outsource this function to a business that does it well. On the consumer side, the shopper is covered by Amazon’s A to z Guarantee – always nice when shopping in the impersonal arena of the internet. Shipping for the Swarovski KitShipping was a modest $5.99. The kit arrived within 5 days of order via UPS. Included with the product were Swarovski’s return policy and a UPS shipping label should the shopper wish to return the item. Swarovski’s return policy is quite liberal allowing for the return of unused, unworn items in their original packing with original receipt for a full refund when returned within 20 days of delivery. Packing of the Swarovski KitThe kit came in an attractive, sturdy package. The large crystal pendant was packed in a clever display that imitated a shop display. It opened by sliding the bottom support off the main section of the display. Very nice presentation. The remaining components were packaged in clear plastic bags. Included was a Swarovski Elements certificate book, which gave some company background, cleaning instructions and warranty information. Instructions for the Swarovski KitThe instructions were very easy to follow. Numbered from one to 10 they were entirely pictorial. There were no ‘insert A to flap B’ instructions. The images were clear and for the most part very user friendly. Measurement instructions were given in cm, which for the USA crowd will necessitate a visit to an inch/centimeter converter. Hint: 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters. There are two problems with the instructions. One pertains to the jump rings. For those that understand the concept of jump rings, the instructions are more than adequate. However, if the shopper has never opened and closed jump rings before, the instructions are baffling. This being said, there is a plethora of instructional sources on the internet with instructions to perform this task. The other issue is with the bow assembly. Due to the slippery nature of the silk cord, it was tedious. The jewelry maker needs to have a little patience to work with securing the bowed knot in the cord. All in all, the necklace kit was well worth it's price of $22.50. Check out the Swarovski website to see all the available kits.
