Jewelry adds to any outfit. Hemp jewelry is a great way to add to a casual outfit or to wear during a day at the beach.
Both men and women can wear hemp jewelry which is why it can be so popular. Necklaces, anklets and bracelets are a few of many different ways to wear hemp jewelry. Making jewelry out of hemp ensures a one of a kind piece. Buying the Supplies for Hemp JewelryThe first step to making hemp jewelry is to buy the supplies.
Cutting the Length of the Hemp RopePut the supplies on a flat surface such as a floor or large table. Determining the length of the rope all depends on what kind of jewelry is being made. For an anklet, cut two ten-foot pieces. For a bracelet, cut two 7'-8' lengths. A necklace takes two 15' pieces. Designing Hemp JewelryThe first step is to make a loop in the center by putting the two pieces of hemp rope together and folding them in half. The person making the jewelry needs to ties the loop into a knot about a half an inch down and safety-pins it to the knee area of their pants. The Square Knot DesignThe square knot design is a very popular style when it comes to hemp jewelry.
Adding BeadsTo give style to this jewelry add colored beads, designer beads and/or natural stone or wood beads. The bead hole needs to be placed around the two center strands after a square knot has been made and to secure the bead make another square not after the bead has been placed. Finishing the Hemp JewelryOnce enough square knots have been made to fit around one's wrist, ankle or neck then it is time to finish this jewelry. Gathering all of the hemp strands and tying them in a very tight knot will secure that the square knots. The free strands that are left at the end of the knot need to be cut short. Then, after removing the safety pin from the knee area of the jeans, the knot will go through the loop at the start of the jewelry and fit tight. The knot might not be enough to go through the loop tightly and this is when a bead needs to be placed right before making the final knot. Hemp jewelry can be made to fit anybody's style and is done quickly and inexpensively. In basic hemp jewelry books, such as Hempbracelets by Anne Akers Johnson, many different styles of hemp jewelry are shown. The most basic and simplest design in making hemp jewelry is the "square knot" style.
