Writing good supporting literature is important when selling your hand made wire and bead jewelry. This is useful at craft markets and exhibitions giving potential buyers something to take away with them, and essential to put in with purchases. A small card or leaflet will be a useful addition even if you are giving your jewelry as gifts or presents .
Giving the customer or recipient more information about you, your work and the item in question, will add value and present you and your work in a more professional light – and in addition if you provide contact details they can get in touch to buy more items at a later date!
When people buy artisan jewelry, it is because they are looking for something different, perhaps a one of a kind piece or an original design. They are also buying a little piece of you, as you will have invested time and creative energies into the creation of the item. Therefore they want to know a little bit about you, what motivates you, what inspires your designs and any interesting snippet of information.
People also want to know more about the work – what are the stones used, are the findings hand made, how did the inspiration come about etc. This gives people more information about the item of jewelry, but also helps to reinforce their perception of you as an artist.
Sell the features and the benefits!
Don’t simply give people a list of all of the features of your jewelry – that will read as little more than a shopping list. Instead make sure that you give them a benefit which goes along side each feature. This not only gives more interesting information but also helps demonstrate why your jewelry is different and special.
So if you have made a pair of earrings using fine silver wire, rose quartz and hand formed findings, don’t leave it at that. Let them know that being of fine silver you have used the finest possible grade of silver available and that as such it will not tarnish like sterling silver, therefore requiring less cleaning. Inform them that rose quartz is the stone of romance and has healing qualities. If you have made your findings then let people know that these are your own design, that no two pieces are exactly the same etc.
Even if you haven’t made your findings, make sure you present the benefits – you only buy findings from reputable sources, that the findings you purchase all meet your exacting quality standards etc.
