It doesn't take much time to make this transforming circular twisted jewelry design. The basic shape changes from hair jewelry to forehead jewelry to a necklace with ease
By itself, this is classy, daytime hair jewelry to keep hair off the face. Add a charm or pendant to transform the circular design to a choker. Tie on some elastic for more formal forehead jewelry.
The concept behind this twisted circular design is similar to the tiara instructions. While the tiara is special occasion jewelry for the hair, this design is meant to provide a quick fix to keep daytime hair out of the way. However, with a few quick alterations, this design transforms into neck and forehead jewelry.
Supplies List
14 inches of 16 gauge square, dead soft twisted gold-filled wire.
24 inches of 21 gauge square dead soft gold-filled wire.
For the forehead and necklace version, purchase a charm or pendant and a jump ring.
To make the forehead version 1/4 inch wide sewing elastic is also required.
Basic jewelry making tools such as wire cutters, mandrel or wooden dowel and bent nose pliers. A jump ring closer will also come in handy if attaching a pendant.
Hair Instructions
Bend the 14 inches of gold-filled wire into a U shape.
Use the mandrel or wooden dowel to create a closed end that is approximately 3/4 inch by 1/4 inch. See Image 1 below. Do the same on the other end of the U.
Next, starting at either end, wrap the 21-gauge wire around the twisted wire three or four times directly at the closed end. See image 2 below.
Continue evenly wrapping 21-gauge wire around the U until the opposite side is reached. Repeat the #3 instruction. Trim any excess wire.
Necklace Instructions
Use a jump ring to attach a pendant or charm to the U shape, place at the neck and gently bend to fit. See Image 3 below.
The pendant shown in the image below is an earring whose mate is missing. Using wire cutters, the post was cut off the back of the earring as close to the base as possible. A file was used to remove the raw edges.
Forehead Instructions
Tie a 12-inch length of 1/4 inch wide elastic to one of the oval shaped terminators.
Section the hair and pull the top section of hair up into a high ponytail.
Place the gold-filled form and pendant on the forehead and adjust the elastic to fit. Tie the loose end of the elastic to the opposite terminator and knot securely. When the ponytail is released, the hair will conceal the elastic.
This might require trial and error to have the forehead jewelry fit exactly right.
This twisted U shape is a jewelry basic and very versatile. The same shape can be shortened and wrapped around the wrist to create a bracelet.
